  • Teletherapy Information for Clients

Teletherapy is the delivery of psychotherapy services using interactive audio and visual electronic systems when you and the behavioral services provider are not in the same physical location.

    Privacy / Confidentiality

We have carefully selected a video-conferencing platform, Google Meet, which incorporates security protocols, such as encryption, to protect your confidentiality. Please let us know if you would like more information about the security of these systems.

    Benefits of Teletherapy

Teletherapy improves access to care by enabling you to see your therapist from anywhere in Maryland, allowing for more timely and/or efficient evaluation and treatment.

    Possible Challenges

Technical challenges such as poor internet connection can cause delays or poor image quality. In very rare instances, security protocols could fail, causing a breach of privacy of personal health information.

    Necessary Equipment

You can do teletherapy on a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. Larger stationary screens and high-definition cameras are recommended but not essential.

    Scheduling a Teletherapy Session

You would schedule a teletherapy session the same way that you schedule any other session, by calling or emailing Ponciano Counseling and Wellness at [email protected] or 240-489-1108.

    Joining a Teletherapy Meeting

You will receive a direct link from Google Meet for your session. Join the meeting by clicking the link. If you experience a delay in receiving your email or any other problem, you can call or email your therapist about it.

Fees / Insurance Coverage / Payment

Ponciano Counseling and Wellness, LLC  fees for teletherapy are the same as in-office therapy. Insurance coverage for teletherapy may vary. If you want to use your insurance for teletherapy, it is important to ask your insurance company ahead of time whether they would cover teletherapy services in your case. Unless prior arrangements can be made with your insurance company for payment, you would have to pay for video-conferencing or telephone teletherapy sessions out-of-pocket.
